Empire. 2008

The series consists of objects created as scaled project models interpreting Roman architecture. Crafted from weathered sticks of an old rural fence overgrown with moss and lichen, the works explore the intersection of ruin and utility: the ongoing use of architectural monuments beyond their social demise. New meanings — such as their role as tourist attractions — ennoble structures that were either dismantled for building materials or entirely abandoned after losing their practical function. Similarly, the decaying fence sticks suddenly assume monumental power and new life. The series offers a profound and nuanced meditation on interpretation phenomenon and cultural recycling.
