Bible Drawings. 2020

Like many classically trained artists, Vitaly Pushnitsky at a certain point turned to a biblical narrative. The often-stated challenge of engaging with such themes lies in their visual exhaustion throughout art history, as well as the philosophical courage required to interpret these subjects. Nevertheless, the artist discovered his own method of creation. These items are not handmade in the traditional sense. Rather than straightforward drawings, these pieces are complex, multilayered collages incorporating monotype techniques, emphasizing their distinctive “unhandmade” quality and thereby adding another layer of biblical allusion. This series of six sheets currently resides in a private collection and has been exhibited only once.
