Garden by Vitaly Pushnitsky

Garden is Vitaly Pushnitsky’s first artist’s book.

Comprising around fifty painted illustrations created simultaneously with the text, the book reflects on life, death, art, and humanity. These visual and literary elements form a parallel stream that flows through the book’s content. Garden evokes the spirit of an ancient Eastern treatise on art, where witty reinterpretations of classical myths coexist with lyrical meditations on the nature of matter.

V. P.: I conceived the text first, and I intended to select some illustrations to accompany it. My figurative works were not suitable because each figurative piece tells its own distinct story, whereas I needed a general atmosphere that would support the text as a whole rather than individual narratives. I decided to create small-format paintings that carry images of nature and memories, intentionally devoid of specific figures. The key aspect is their fragmentary nature, much like the world itself, which is infinitely vast and ever-changing; our eyes, our consciousness, can never fully encompass it.

This work stands as a thoughtful dialogue between image and text, mastery and philosophy — a contemplative space where myth and matter, antiquity and modernity converge in intimate conversation.
