Vitaly Pushnitsky is one of the leading Russian artists of his generation. Known primarily as a painter, he works across a wide range of media — from printmaking to large-scale objects and installations. In his painting, Pushnitsky engages in an active dialogue with the global history of art while crafting his own narrative and developing new visual languages. The artist works in series that can span years and often intersect in content.
Born in Leningrad in 1967, Pushnitsky received a classical education at the Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg. He is the recipient of numerous international grants and the creator of several public projects in Russia, Denmark, India, Finland, and other countries. A frequent nominee for the Kandinsky Prize and other awards, he has participated in numerous international exhibitions and biennials, including the 56th Venice Biennale (2015). In 2011, Pushnitsky was represented in the publication "Vitamin P2" (Phaidon) as one of the key contemporary artists shaping new directions in painting. Pushnitsky gained significant recognition through his painting series Studio (since 2014) and Tribute (since 2016), with works from these series acquired by major Russian and several international collections.
Since 2022, Pushnitsky has annually published books of philosophical prose, art essays, and research in the field of visual arts.
